Team Debate Info For THIS FRIDAY!

Topics for Debate
FNL – July 11, 2014

What’s Happening: This Friday, we will have a special edition Friday Night Live! Each team will have 2 topics to debate another team on. It is your responsibility to DEFEND your side of the argument to the best of your ability. The best ARGUMENT will win the points of the round. This means that your ARGUMENT doesn’t necessarily have to be correct during the debate (we will talk about each topic in depth at the end of debates), but you do need to defend your team’s stance in order to have a chance on winning. Each team will be given a few minutes before the debates to gather their thoughts for their round of debates.

Suggestions: Do research. Use the Bible, Ellen G White, Internet, etc. to help defend your position. Think of points the other team might try to argue. If your team has to defend a position you yourself do not believe in, look for “loop-holes” that can break-apart the other side’s argument to give more credibility to your team’s stance. For the sake of the debate, the side that you have to defend does NOT necessarily reflect your actual beliefs.

Awarding of Points: 50 points will be earned for the team that WINS the debates in each round. 10 points will be earned for teams that prove they did their research.
REMEMBER, a team does not win necessarily from being right…but rather from having the best DEFENSE for their position in the argument.

Purpose: To get a deeper relationship with God and better understanding of life in general by getting many of our questions answered.

·       Can things such as the way I dress, drinking alcohol, smoking, not paying tithe, (which are not part of the 10 commandments, but are general SDA baptismal vows and values) affect my ultimate salvation?

Team Aviators argues YES it does ultimately affect my salvation

Team LifeSavers argues NO it does not ultimately affect my salvation

·       All sins are the same in severity in God’s eyes?

Team Transformers argue YES all sins are the same in God’s eyes

Team LifeSavers argue NO all sins are not the same in God’s eyes

·       Can a person be “called to singleness?” (This means that a person is meant to be single for the entire life.)

Team Transformers argues YES a person can be called to singleness

Team Aviators argues NO a person cannot called to singleness

SIDE NOTE: ALL 13 Chapters of STEPS TO CHRIST SHOULD BE COMPLETE BY THE END OF THIS WEEK TO STAY ON SCHEDULE! If you’re behind, try your best to catch up. You can do it!
